Everything returns to nature

This series is a tribute to the social movement of southern Italians away from generational stone built homes to modern apartments in the late 70’s early 80’s

My first visit to my ancestor’s homeland Calabria was in 1996.

In 2002 I travelled right through the mountains that divide the region and its seas.  I felt at home in the desert less architecture laced with ancient stories, so much that in 2004 I spent a year in a small mountain town in Calabria’s north where my wife’s ancestor’s reside.

We return regularly to explore the same places some of which only exist as ruins and travel onto new places in Calabria constantly documenting the demise of these ancestral stone built homes & in some cases entire towns.
