What defines a Place? Is it where we are or want to be – qua in situ? But then: do we define the place, or is it rather – as a concept of being – the location that defines us? Four different photographic positions converse about place and location-awareness. With all of the four photographers having spent lengthy periods living abroad in recent years, the bond with the term place has become unavoidable. Place is a sensory illusion of displacement combined with the desire to search and find one place. It can be described at times as a brash misconception. Our perception and emotion filtered through photography is manifested in something that is neither real or fiction. Sharing and exchanging these impressions has become our dialogue – a conversation about a place.
